ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2010-2011
With all humility, it is my pleasure to submit the First report of the Malankara Orthodox Shushrushaka Sangam, Madras Diocese. Malankara Orthodox Shushrushaka Sangam, Madras Diocese is a unit of AKHILA MALANKARA ORTHODOX SHUSHRUSHAKA SANGAM (AMOSS).
OBJECTIVES:-
  1. To give guidance to the Altar Assistants of all parishes in the Madras Diocese to make uniformity in the worship of the church and to serve systematically.
  2. To mould people who have recognized the God's call and Grace, with dedication and follow spiritual and sacramental life, and who have worldly experience to reside as servants in the sacramental service of the Holy Church.
  3. To train attendants to practice the holy church's traditional and ritual service without any alteration and to perform it timely with all its meaning and value and to ordain and make them members of the church's serving community.
  4. To co-ordinate with the Church Choir and make the worship more meaningful and interesting to the congregation.
The training to these Altar Assistants is given under the supervision of the Diocesan Metropolitan and Vicars of the each Parish.
ACTIVITIES:-
The First meeting of the Madras Diocese Shushrushaka Sangam was held on 17-07-2010 at Mehta Nagar Aramana. Around 65 Acolytes from different Parishes in Chennai attended. The meeting commenced with Prayer lead by Our Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros. Our Vice-President Rev. Fr. Varghese John welcomed the Acolytes and mentioned the importance of the service of the Acolytes in our worship. H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, President of the Shushrushaka Sangam took the classes and stressed the importance of Acolytes in the Malankara Orthodox Church and the Importance of their role in the Orthodox Worship. Thirumeni in his class indicated that the Christ is the incarnated God and Priest represents Christ and the Sacramental representation of God. The Acolytes are real messengers of God and they convey the message received from God. Thirumeni also explained the dream of Prophet Isaiah quoting Isaiah Ch:6. Vs: 01 to 09. Thirumeni also explained the importance of Holy Qurbana on Sundays and how the Acolytes should prepare themselves from the previous day with the Evening Prayers. The meeting ended with the Closing Prayer and Benediction by Thirumeni.
Subsequently vide Kalapana No. 192/2010 dt. 29-09-2010 our Diocesan Metropolitan had appointed the following as the Diocesan Level Office Bearers.
  1. Shri. D. Mathews, St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, Broadway, as Diocesan Secretary.
  2. Shri. Anu Joy, St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Chetpet, as Diocesan Treasurer.
It may be mentioned here that an effort was made to register all the Units of Diocese Shushrushaka Sangam with the Akhila Malankara Shushrushaka Sangam, by circulating the Application Form along with a Format to furnish the details of the Acolytes serving in each Parish, to all the Parishes in Madras Diocese. However, only 3 Churches have responded by furnishing the required details. Hence the same has been kept pending. Thirumeni had also issued the Guidelines for the Acolytes to all the Churches in the Diocese through the Vicars of the Parish.
FUTURE PROGRAMS:
The activities proposed under Shushrushaka Sangham under Diocese/Regional level are:-
  1. Periodical training programmes for Acolytes at the Diocese and Regional level.
  2. Annual conference at Diocesan level aiming in the upliftment and encouragement of youngsters as Altar Assistants.
  3. Annual Retreat for the Altar Assistants.
CONCLUSION
I conclude the report by submitting our sincere thanks to our President Thirumeni, H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros for his valuable guidance, advice and leadership given to our Shushrushaka Sangam as well as for the various activites . We also extend our sincere thanks to the Akhila Malankara Shushrushaka Sangam President H.G. Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios and to the General Secretary of Akhila Malankara Shushrushaka Sangam, Shri. Jose Kurien Puliyeril for all the guidance, support and periodical advices. I also place it on record our sincere thanks to our most experienced vice President, Rev. Fr. Varghese John who is endeavouring his best for the active and smooth functioning of our Shushrushaka Sangam as well as for the successful conducting of our programmes. I also extend my sincere thanks to our Treasurer Shri. Anu Joy, for his valuable support. I also express my sincere gratitude to all the Priests of Madras Diocese for rendering their valuable support and guidance and also to all our members for their active participation.
I conclude this report by expressing our sincere submission and devotion to the Supreme Head of our Church, H.H. Moran Mar Baselius Didymus I Valiya Bava and H.H. Moran Mor Baselius Paulose II Catholica Bava and the members of the Holy Synod. We also submit in prayers for the intercession of St. Thomas the Apostle of India, St. Mary the mother of God and all the Saints and Martyers, especially for the intercession of St. Gregorios and St. Dionysius.
