ANNUAL REPORT 2013 – 2014.

 

With immense Grace, Glory and Adoration to God Almighty, it is my privilege to present the Annual Report of the activities of Madras Diocese Morth Mariam Vanitha Samajam for the year   2013-‘14. 

 

Morth Mariam Vanitha Samajam (MMVS) is the Women's wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and one of the major spiritual organizations of our church combining all the female members. It is spread throughout the world in all the 30 Dioceses of our Church and is functioning in almost all the parishes.  The Motto of Morth Mariam Samajam is “PRAY, WORK AND SHINE”.

 

DIOCESE LEVEL ACTIVITIES.

MMVS conduct various Diocesan level activities which includes, Bible Study, Retreats, One Day Conferences, Seminars, Quiz competitions, Music and Elocution Competitions etc., with a view  to improve upon the spiritual and social life of our members and their families.   Added to this, as a part of our Charity Programmes, our members at the unit level as well as at the Regional Levels, visit orphanages, Old Age Homes, extend financial help for the homeless, providing educational assistance to the needy students and also visits the sick as well as the people in distress. 

 

Programmes like, Fellowship of the Least Coin, World Day of Prayer are being conducted at Regional level. Bible month from July 15 to August 15, Vanitha varam from August 8 to 15 and Vanitha Dinam on August 15 are being observed at Unit level.  Feast of Assumption of St. Mary, Feast of Nativity of St. Mary etc., are also being observed at unit level under the auspices of MMVS. 

 

Our President Thirumeni, His Grace Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros is the guiding spirit behind all our activities and Thirumeni is actively involved in all our programmes. Thirumeni’s presence in the Regional/Diocesan Level programmes is a blessing to all of us.  Thirumeni’s dynamic leadership, guidance and concern for all our activities at Diocesan, Regional and Unit level encourage the members to actively participate in the various programmes in large numbers.

 

REGIONAL UNITS.

Our Diocesan Level activities are being conducted in 04 Regions viz., Andaman, Chennai, Coimbatore and Far East.  We are gathering periodical reports at regular intervals and as per the information received from the Regional Secretaries, the Regional Level activities are going on very well and it is very encouraging and beneficial for the Spiritual and Social Growth and Development of our Members.

 

DIOCESAN LEVEL ONE DAY CONFERENCE.

A Diocesan level One day conference was organised on 18th July, 2013 and the venue of the Conference was our St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Orthodox Church Koyembedu, Chennai.  The Theme of the Conference was “PENMAYUDE NANMA”.  It may be mentioned here that  the Ministry of Human Empower Department of Malankara Orthodox Church, had dedicated the Last quarter of 2013 i.e., from October to December 2013 for the Women safety and Empowerment and the above theme was deliberated by all the Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church.  Our One day conference was inaugurated by our Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros.  The Theme of the Conference was presented by Rev. Fr. P.A. Philip, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Human Empower of the Malankara Orthodox Church.  Rev. Fr. Mathew Varghese, Vice-President of the Central Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam and Advocate Elizabeth Seshadri lead the other two Sessions of the conference.  The Conference concluded with the Question Answer Session lead by Rev. Fr. P.A. Philip and with concluding prayer and Benediction by our Thirumeni.  Our members from all the parishes in Chennai and Coimbatore region participated in large numbers and made the One Day Conference a grand success.

 

 

AKHILA MALANKARA MMVS ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS:-

Annual Examination of the Akhila Malankara Morth Mariam Vanitha Samajam is being conducted every year. This examination was held at Various Regional centers on 20-10-2013.  Around 221 Candidates from our various units had registered for the annual Examination.  Though the attendance for the examination was less, all those who have attended examination passed out successfully.  I am glad to report that Smt. Mariamma Sunny of St. Peter’s & St. Paul’s Church, Koyambedu had secured 3rd Rank in Senior Category at the Akhila Malankara Level.

Third Rank:         Mrs. Lizy Joseph, St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Injambakkam.

 

All the winners were awarded with the certificates and the Rank Holders are being presented with mementos by our Thirumeni.

 

82ND ANNUAL/GLOBAL CONFERENCE:

The 82nd Annual/Global Conference of the MMVS was held at St. Thomas Orthodox Valiyapally, Omallur, Pathanamthitta District from 18-09-2013 to 20-09-2013.  The Theme of the Conference was “Without Peace and Holiness no one will see the Lord”. (Hebrews: 12:14). The Conference was inaugurated by H.G. Kuriakose Mar Clemis, Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese and presided over by H. G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Thevodoros, President of the MMVS.   Our Bava Thirumeni His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II addressed the Conference on the Second Day and inaugurated the “SNEHA SPARSHAM” Project of the MMVS and also distributed the Awards. H.G. Dr. Abraham Mar Seraphim, Metropolitan of Bangalore Diocese was also present.  Many eminent and talented speakers and dignitaries led the various sessions of the Conference on these three days.  42 delegates from all our units including our Diocesan and Regional Level office Bearers have actively participated in this conference.  Financial Assistance was awarded to two Samajam members of our Diocese from Central MMVS.  As a decision was taken to conduct the 83rd Annual/Global Conference at Chennai, the Conference Flag was handed over to the Madras Diocesan Secretary at the Concluding Session of the Annual Conference-2013, by H.G. Kuriakose Mar Clemis, H. G. Dr Yuhanon Mar Thevodoros and H.G. Dr. Abraham Mar Seraphim, in the presence of the Delegates from Madras Diocese.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAMME.

During the Reporting year, Leadership Training Programme was organised at Akhila Malankara Level and the same was held at Mannathala Marian Play Home of Trivandrum Diocese on 28th February and 1st March 2014. The theme of the Training Programme was the words of Mother Theresa “Leadership is not a position, but it is a function”.   Three Delegates from our Diocese have actively participated in the deliberations of the Leadership Training Programme.

CHARITY PROJECTS.

We are pleased to place it on record that Diocesan MMVS had actively participated in the Renovation works of the Vellore  SNEHA BHAVAN, a Project of the Madras Diocese and contributed Rs.11.00 Lakhs for construction of 3 Rooms of Sneha Bhavan.  Out of this, Rs.3.00 Lakhs was contributed by our Coimbatore Region.  MMVS members of the Coimbatore Region had also contributed to the development of the Prerana School, a school for the differently abled students of the St. Thomas Orthodox Seminary, Nagpur.

PILGRIMAGE AND PADAYATHRA.

Our Samajam Members actively participated in the Pilgrimage to the Tomb of St. Gregorios at Parumala on 31-10-2013 and to the Tomb of St. Thomas at Mylapore on 15-12-2013.  Members of our Samajam from Coimbatore Region participated in the pilgrimage to the Tomb of St. Dionysius of Vattasseril at Old Seminary and participated in the Orma Perunal.

 

MMVS COVER COLLECTION.

For the Development works of our MMVS, a cover collection was organised at our Diocese Level on the Vanitha Samajam Day i.e., on August 15, 2013.  All our Units have actively participated and an amount of Rs.72,000.00 was collected and sent the share to the Samajam Central Office.

 

VANITHA DEEPTHI MAGAZINE.

Samajam Members of our Diocese have subscribed for the Quarterly Magazine “VANITHA DEEPTHI”, published by Samajam Central Office.

 

ANNUAL/GLOBAL CONFERENCE 2014.

As it was decided to conduct the next MMVS Annual/Global Conference at Chennai, a meeting was held at our Mehta Nagar Aramana, presided over by our Diocesan Metropolitan, H.G Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, on 13-12-2014.  All the Parish Priests from the Madras Region, all the Office bearers of the Units, Regional and Diocesan office bearers and special invitees had attended the meeting.  Detailed preliminary discussions were held regarding the smooth conduct of the conference and the participants gave valuable suggestions.  Various committees for the conduct of the Conference were formed and the duties and responsibilities of the various committees were defined.  It was also decided that, Conveners of the Various Committees can co-opt additional members as and when required, for the conduct of the Conference.

 

CONCLUSION:

I place it on record my sincere thanks to our President Thirumeni, H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, for Thirumeni’s valuable guidance, advices from time to time and concern shown for the members as well as for the various activities. I also record our sincere thanks to Akhila Malankara Morth Mariam Vanitha Samajam President Thirumeni  H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Thevodoros for all the guidance and periodical advices.  I also place it on record our sincere thanks for the leadership given by Rev. Fr. Gigy Mathew, served as the vice President upto August 2013 and also to Rev. Fr. Thomas Issac serving as the new Vice President of MMVS from September, 2013.   Their active and sincere support helps us for the active and smooth functioning of all our Units, as well as for successful conduct of all Regional Level and Diocesan level programmes.  I also extend my sincere thanks to MMVS General Secretary, Prof. Mary Mathew, our Treasurer Mrs. Susha Kurian, all Committee members of the Diocesan Morth Mariam Vanitha Samajam and the Regional level office bearers for their hard work,  valuable co-operation and support.  I also express my sincere gratitude to all the Achan’s of the Madras Diocese for rendering their valuable guidance and support. 

I conclude this report by rendering our sincere submission and devotion to the Supreme Head of our Church, H.H. Moran Mor Baselios Marthoma Paulose II  Bava Thirumeni and the members of the Holy Episcopal Synod and to our Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros.  We also submit in prayers  for the intercession of St. Mary, Patron Saint and the guiding spirit of our Samajam, St. Thomas, Apostle of India and all the Saints and Martyrs, especially for the intercession of St. Gregorios of Parumala and St. Dionysius Vattasseril.

By the Immense Grace of God Almighty, it is my proud privilege to present the Annual Report of the Activities of Madras Diocese Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam for the year 2010-11
Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam is the Women's wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. It is one of the major spiritual organization of our church combining all the female members. Aims and Objecives
The Aims and objective of Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam is to strive to create an awareness among women to have, Theological Training by studying the Divya bodhanam course of the Orthodox Seminary, Kottayam, Participating in the Annual examination conducted by MOMS, Participating in Church Choir to make the worship more meaningful, Training women to have social awareness, Participation in social activities., Decision-making at every level, Attempts to find out women's potentials to a greater extent, Training women to conduct prayer groups, to lead prayer, Bible classes, Fellowship meetings and to preach the Gospel, to enhance spiritual practices by observing lent and other religious practices, bringing up children etc., attempts to find out more Sunday School teachers with a commitment to Christ.
Diocese Level Activities

It is very much encouraging to all our Members that our President Thirumeni His Grace Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, is actively involving in all our programmes and the presence of our Thirumeni in the Regional Level programmes, boost the morale of our members. Thirumeni's leadership, guidance and concern for all our activities at Regional and Unit level encourage the members to actively participate in the various programmes in large numbers.
Regional Units
It is happy to report that the Regional Level Units are functioning at Andamans, Chennai, Coimbatore and overseas. From the reports gathered from the Regional Secretaries that the Regional Level activities are going on very well and it is encouraging and beneficial for the Spiritual Growth and Development of our Members.

Prizes to the out station members were sent through their Vicars.
Akhila Malankara Annual Conference
The 79th Annual Conference of the MMVS was held at Pampady Mar Kuriakos Dayara from 18.05.2010 to 20.05.2010 and our previous Diocese Secretary Mrs. Lovely John and a team of our members from various Parishes, have actively participated in the Annual conference.
Unit Visits
During the reporting year, I could visit few units at Chennai Region, viz., St. Mary's Church - Chetpet, St. Thomas Church - Puzhuthivakkam, St. Gregorios Church - Perambur, St. Peter's and St. Pauls Church - Koyambedu, St. George Church - Ramalingapuram and attended the meetings.
Moms Navajyothi Society
We are encouraging our Member Units to start the MOMS Navajyothi Society, self help Group for Empowerment of Samajam Members. The members of the St. Gregorios Orthodox Church - Perambur, in their annual meeting has shown interest in starting a Candle manufacturing unit from next year. The details are being worked out by the Office Bearers of the Unit.
Conclusion
I record my sincere thanks to our President Thirumeni H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros for his valuable guidance, advice and concern Thirumeni is showing for the members as well as for the various activities and also to Akhila Malankara Marthamariam Vanitha Samajam President Thirumeni H.G. Dr. Zacharia Mar Theophilos for all the guidance and periodical advices. I also place it on record our sincere thanks to our dynamic vice president, Rev. Fr. Gigy Mathew, who is endeavouring his best for the active and smooth functioning of all our units as well as for the successful conducting of Regional Level programmes. I also extend my sincere thanks to our Treasurer Mrs. Susha Kurian, all Committee members of the Diocese Marthamariam Vanitha Samajam and the Previous Diocesan level office bearers for their valuable guidance and support. I also express my sincere gratitutde to all the Priests of Madras Diocese for rendering their valuable support and guidance.
I conclude this report by expressing my sincere submission and devotion to the Supreme Head of our Church, H.H. Moran Mar Baselius Didymus I Valiya Bava and H.H. Moran Mor Baselius Paulose II Catholica Bava and the members of the Holy Synod. We also submit in prayers for the intercession of St. Mary, the guiding spirit of our Samajam, and all the Saints and Martyers, especially for the intercession of St. Gregorios and St. Dionysius.
