With humble praise to Almighty God and great joy, I hereby submit the Annual Report of MGOCSM & OCYM – Madras Diocese for the year 2013-14. The activities of the movement go on the whole year with a lot of enthusiasm and interest. We have strived to create a loving environment and work together at Regional / Diocesan Level. In this report I have mentioned the activities of the movement region wise. (Chennai, Coimbatore, Andaman & Nicobar and Far East) CHENNAI REGION Leadership Camp ‘13 The first event organized was a leadership training which was set up at the St. Peters and St. Pauls Church, Koyambedu on May 25th 2013. It was set up to provide a platform for the new leaders and young members of the organization enabling them to learn the nuances of handling a spiritual organization which is quite at a different level. The guest speakers were Mr. Johnny Joseph (Bangalore) and Mr. Babu Daniel, who were former members of the MGOSCM, Chennai and currently part of the organization, AMMA. The conference was attended by 130 members. Spikefest Zone 1 kick-started the year’s zonal events with a Volleyball (for men) and Throwball (for women) tournament on June 8th 2013. This was held at the Koyambedu St. Thomas College grounds and saw participation from 13 Churches of Chennai & Coimbatore regions. The event was inaugurated by our Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros who also stayed back for the prize distribution. The Volleyball trophy was won by St. George’s Orthodox Church, Padi and the Throwball trophy was lifted up by St. Peter’s and Paul’s Church, Koyambedu. H.G. Zachariah Mar Dionysius Memorial Quiz and Extempore competition It is an Annual Regional event that is taken up by a unit and conducted with the regional team’s guidance. This year it was conducted by the Tambaram unit on June 16th 2013. The Quiz was won by St. Mary's Orthodox Church., Injambakkam and the runners up were Mar Gregorios Orthodox Pilgrim Centre, Tambaram. In the extempore competition, the winners in order were as below: Siji Raju of St. George Orthodox Church, Padi, Jithin George Mathew of St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Injambakkam and Meryl Mammen Kurien of St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Chetpet. Confluenz ’13 – Regional One day Conference One day conference with the theme “Holy Qurbana” was hosted by Chetpet, St.Mary’s Orthodox Church unit at Regional Level. Members from all the units and students from various colleges in Chennai Region participated in this event. Smashfest In the month of August, Zone 1 organized the next set of events for the sports meet which was titled as Chennai Regional Youth Olympics (CRYO). This time the events lined up were indoor events and they were organized at Kavi Bharathi School grounds, Thiruvottiyur. The events lined up were Badminton (singles and doubles), Carroms and Table tennis. There were separate events for Boys and Girls. It was a huge success and there were participants from all the units in our region along with invitees from the Coimbatore region.

Illuminite – Cultural Fest Zone 2 who were given charge of the cultural engagement laid foundation to their lineup with a cultural extravaganza under the banner of Illuminite. This was arranged at the Broadway Church parish hall premises in September. The events included face painting, photography with a dance competition being the highlight of the program. The theme of the dance competition was LOL whose expansion was left to the creative streak of the competing teams. Members of units in Chennai and Coimbatore Regions participated in the Events. Patrons day Celebration and inauguration of Charity Box at Diocesan Level MGOCSM Patron’s Day celebrations were held at Mar Gregorios Orthodox Pilgrim Centre, Tambaram in the month of November, the MGOCSM Diocesan & Regional committee organized a meeting of the youth members. Bishop President of OCYM, H.G. Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos was present for the meeting. His Grace met the unit representatives to get an idea of the programs that were arranged in the Chennai region and gave valuable suggestions. At the same event a charity box initiative was inaugurated by the Metropolitan at the Diocesan Level. SANGEETHADHARA Ecumenical Choir Competition The 20th SANGEETHADHARA, an ecumenical choir competition hosted by the youth of the St. George Orthodox Church, Padi unit at Regional level, was held in the month of November. Many eminent personalities from the cine and music field were invited for the event as guests and judges. HYMNS Competition The 18th Inter Church HYMNS singing competition was hosted by St. Thomas Mount Orthodox Church, Puzhuthivakkam on 1st December 2013. As choirs from all Parishes in Chennai Region participated in the event the competition was quite tough. It was quite interesting as it had prizes for group singing, solo singing, and an event to test creativity and team work. Christmas wishes to the Aramana Along with Psalmos (Diocesan Band), the Diocesan / regional committee, unit representatives and members met up at the Bishop House in Mehta Nagar on December 21 to ring in the Christmas joy to our beloved Metropolitan. We were greeted with total warmth and His Grace was much happy to meet us all. Cricfest – Mar Gregorios Cricket Tournament: The final event organized by Zone 1 was the Mar Gregorios Cricket Tournament. This has been an annual event that is held at the Don Bosco school grounds, Perambur. This year the event was placed under the Zone 1 CRYO events. The tournament was won by St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Church, Koyambedu, who emerged as the overall champions of CRYO 2013-14. Regional Lenten Retreat: Regional Lenten Retreat was hosted by Zone 3 of Chennai Region at the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Pilgrim Centre. Theme for the Retreat was “Vocation & Response”. Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros was the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Siju Komban, Director of Sneha Theeram of the Malankara Catholic Church was the Guest Speaker. Gregorian Worship and confession sessions were other highlights of the retreat.

Ecumenical Events: Pan-Orthodox Meetings: Members from the Coptic and Ethiopian Orthodox Churches were given a grand welcome by MGOCSM & OCYM - Madras Diocese. We had joint meetings in Avadi HVF, Koyambedu and Chetpet Parishes. Members from units in Chennai Region and students from various colleges participated in all the three meetings. Madras Ecumenical Christian Fellowship Youth Conference: Last year’s MECF Youth Conference was hosted by MGOCSM members of Koyambedu unit on behalf of Malankara Orthodox Churches in Chennai Region. Theme for the conference was “Rest a while in HIS hands”. Youth members from all denominations (Malayalam speaking, Syrian background Churches) participated in the conference. Event Management Team and Psalmos pushed in their complete support to Koyambedu unit in organizing the event. Unit level Charity Programs Most of the units in Chennai region are engaged in charity activities such as visiting orphanages, old age /care homes, organizing Blood donation & Medical camps, etc without fail every year. Tambaram unit allocates Rs.1.3 Lakhs for Charity every year. Chetpet unit visited Prathayasha, a Care home for HIV affected Children. The units of Padi, Perambur etc visited orphanages in and around Chennai. Padi unit also donated two wheel chairs to the handicapped people of a slum near their Church during Sangeethadhara Event. Koyambedu Unit visited Attapadi as part of the Mission Trip. Night Vigil: Night Vigil was held in most of the Parishes in Chennai Region on the evening of Good Friday. During the night vigil, the youth members spent time in meditation and reading from the Book of Psalms in turns. Activities of Vellore Unit (Chennai Region)
 Meetings were held on all Saturdays after the Sandhya Namaskaram. Meetings were held on Sundays also after the Holy Qurbana for programmes and discussions on important matters.
 The choir participated in Sankeerthanam, the musical evening conducted by the Vellore CMC Malayalam Congregation at CMC Hospital Vellore on 20th April, 2013.
 Smoronio – the Memories was the farewell program conducted for the outgoing batch of 2013 -14 on 28th April, 2013.
 A Quiz programme was conducted as a part of Nurses day celebration on 16th June, 2013.
 Disha is a blood donor’s forum which aims at collecting database related to the blood groups of the students and the Church members who were willing to donate blood on requirement.
 This year’s Annual tour was on 8th September, 2013. Members visited the Seenai Hills and spent some time there with games and other entertainment programmes.
 Freshers day and Onam was celebrated on 15th September, 2013, after the Holy Qurbana. The freshers were welcomed by Rev. Fr. Abey and the Church Secretary Dr. C.E Eapen delivered the felicitation speech. After the celebrations Onam programmes were conducted.
 The Christmas celebration was conducted on 1st December, 2013 Sunday. This year the theme was AdonaiSar Shalom – God’s peace be with you. Rev Fr. Abey M Chacko presided over the function and Rev Fr. Jinu Abraham, vicar of Vellore Marthoma Church delivered the message for the day. Melodious carol songs were sung by the choir and a skit depicting the life of Mother Mary was performed.

 The Consecration of Snehabhavan was held on 22nd January, 2014 and the service was led by H. H. Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicose of East and Malankara Metropolitan. He was assisted by H.G Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan of Madras Diocese and other priests. The members of MGOCSM actively participated in the programme and provided all the necessary help and service as and when required.
 Annual Retreat was held on 30th March, 2014 after the Holy Qurbana. The retreat was led by Rev. Fr. Yohannan Sankarathil. MGOCSM members also visited the homes of the elders in Church and spent some time with them sharing their experiences in life.
 This year they had two Charity Visits. On 8th September, 2013, they visited MBKG Pannai in Kasam which is a Care home for children and elders. On 23rdMarch 2014 they visited Karunai Illam in Vellore and conducted an awareness programme on personal and public hygiene.
COIMBATORE REGION
 All units under the region have their own unit level activities such as Bible studies, interactive sessions etc.
 Youth Members of Coimbatore Region host an annual musical Event by the name Salvation Night.
 Save Life Fund is a Charity activity which they have been doing for over 10 years now. It is aimed at supporting our Church members/outsiders and involves lending a helping hand to patients who are from poor background. Approximately Rs. 1.5 Lakhs had been distributed for this charity work last year.
 MGOCSM members from Coimbatore unit actively participated in the Leadership Camp, Sports events and Cultural fest held in Chennai.
 Sports and Cultural Fest (LIFE) - Coimbatore unit organized Sports and Cultural fest for the MGOCSM members in the region. H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros Metropolitan and Daya Bai, a prominent social activist from Kerala who is working for the upliftment of tribals in central India were the chief guests for the event.
 Onam was celebrated in the traditional way, most of them in the ethnic wear & a variety of programmes were held.
 There was good representation from Coimbatore for the MGOCSM Global conference. There was a region wise cultural event on 27th December in which the members of the Coimbatore region stormed the stage with a high voltage professional dance sequence.
Holy Innocents Chapel It is a student’s Chapel in the region. Students of Karunya University attend Holy Qurbana and conduct youth meetings in this Chapel. Their activities include Bible Classes, Alumni meet, Farewell, etc. ANDAMAN & NICOBAR REGION
 Conducted awareness meeting on the ill effects of alcoholism. About 30 members attended this meeting.
 Conducted a spiritual meeting on the importance of Prayer in our lives. H. G. Yuhanon Mar Policarpos, Bishop President of OCYM and Metropolitan of Angamali Diocese, who was doing a tour of the region, was the guest speaker.
 Organized a food stall during the harvest festival celebrations at the Church, to raise funds for charity initiatives

 Donated Rs. 1 lakh to Capstone Ministries for the construction of an orphanage at Bird Line, Calicut, Port Blair.
 Donated Rs. 3 lakhs for the construction of a room at Sneha Bhavan, which is attached to CMC Vellore.
 They engage in various other charity activities such as visiting interior villages and providing necessary material, conducting Medical Camps, visits to orphanages and old age homes.
FAR EAST REGION Australia & New Zealand
 The MGOCSM/OCYM conducts Bible study sessions on the fourth Saturday of every month which continues to be a success under the guidance of the Vicar Rev. Fr. Thomas Varghese.
 During the last half year, the MGOCSM/OCYM has organized a few fundraising and charity activities such as: BBQ lunch at Church, assisted with Onam, aided in decorating the church for Christmas program and youth band performance on Christmas Eve, and also the biggest Church Charity event of the year, Swaranjali.
 During the month of November a blood donation drive was held in which various members of the MGOCSM/OCYM took part.
 A few members of MGOCSM/OCYM took part in the 100km walk event which was held on August 23 -24. The two day trek from Hawkesbury to the Harbour was organized to raise funds for assistance to free poverty from society, and a grand total of $10000 plus was raised.
 The MGOCSM and OCYM assisted the Sunday school teachers in the annual OVBS programs. This included setting up games and small bible sessions.
 Colour run, is also planned as a fundraiser. This is a 5 km run or walk in which colour powder is thrown at you. The money raised for this event goes to the Cancer Council, Australia. This event took place on 9th February 2013. Various Members of MGOCSM/OCYM signed up for this extraordinary run.
 In the last six months, several bible study sessions have taken place. These sessions were conducted by the older youth members, on varied topics like TALENTS, Fruits of the Holy Spirit and the important and most influential characters of the Bible.
 As part of its fund raising activities over the past year, the MGOCSM conducted BBQ sales as well as a church yard sale raising $2,600. The church yard sale was held on 27th April 2014 at our Cathedral, in an effort to raise funds for the Sunday School Building Project.
 Several other future projects are in planning like blood drive etc.
 The youth have also started a new initiative under the name, “Birthing Kids Foundation”. The funds collected under this head will be used to ship assembled birthing kits to African countries which do not have proper medical facilities for maternity.
 The youth in this region are very active in Red Cross Blood donation initiatives.
 They also conduct BBQ nights and car washes to raise funds for other charity initiatives.
Malaysia & Singapore Annual Orthodox Youth Camp: Youth Camp is an Annual Event in Malaysia and Singapore, where the youth of Malaysia and Singapore take turns to host this event.

Singapore: Blood donation drive: A blood donation drive was organized by the youth for the whole church. There were also a few visitors, living nearby, who came for the drive as well. Bible Studies & Workshops are conducted regularly. Christmas Program: The Christmas Program is a yearly event jointly organized by all groups. Youth nite and Sports day: It is basically a platform for youth members to showcase their talents. All the youth members of Singapore participated in these events. Food fair and Year end BBQ: Food sales were organized by youth members of Singapore to raise funds to organize youth events and for Charity. It is an annual event organized towards the end of the year. Youth members gather together to close the final year-end report, spend time together through games and a barbecue. Malaysia: Participation in Church Cultural Fest The youth put up a skit as part of the performance which was aimed at highlighting one of the major issues the world is facing currently - human trafficking. The story revolved around a Christian boy who was trafficked to a foreign country and was abused by his employer. Through constant prayer and a stroke of luck, he managed to escape and to further help others who were also trafficked.

FGIS stands for Friendship Group for Inter-Religious Services and consists of the 5 main religious groups in Malaysia, which are the Islamic group, the Christian group, the Buddhist group, the Hindu group and the Sikh group. FGIS seeks to bring the people together through various activities which are organized throughout the year and stress on racial unity and tolerance. The youth first attended a workshop which highlighted some of the issues that the country was facing and eventually took part in the activity in conjunction with the FGIS day. Every year the youth are assigned the task to prepare activities for Easter Day and they successfully were able to set up game stalls and sell food items to raise funds for the Youth Fellowship. Similarly, some youth members also participated in the caroling held in December, where they visited the houses of the church members, both far and near to spread the glad tidings of Christmas. Besides these activities, the youth also meet up often for Bible studies, sharing sessions after Church as well as fellowship gatherings including guitar & web designing classes to further enhance their talents, and the bond among their group. Student Congregations & Campus Ministry: We also have few student congregations in places like Chidambaram, Chengalpattu, Sriperambudur, etc. where they have regular youth meetings, Bible study, etc. Holy Qurbana is also celebrated in few of these Student Congregations especially for the Student community in those regions.

As part of the new initiative each unit in the Chennai Region were allotted Colleges. Last year special events were hosted at the St.Mary’s Orthodox Church, Injambakkam, for the students & working members of institutions in and around the Church. Representation in MGOCSM Central Committee on behalf of Madras Diocese The Diocesan and Regional office bearers attended the MGOCSM General body meeting which was held at Kottayam on July 4-5, 2013. It was a proud moment and great recognition for MGCOSM Madras Diocese when Mr. Nevin Raju from our Diocese was elected as the Students’ Vice President of MGOCSM from the OKR Region. MGOCSM Global Conference 2013 Under the fervent and rigorous canvassing of our Diocesan and Regional office bearers this year Madras Diocese (represented by Chennai and Coimbatore regions) stormed the MGOCSM Global Conference, 2013 with a participation of 115 members. The conference was held at Trivandrum on the dates December 26-29. There was huge appreciation from all quarters at the conference for our energetic participation in various events and the vibrancy and youthfulness which was visible in our every move there. Teams formed at Diocesan Level: For the initial phase all the teams are started in Chennai Region and we are planning to start in other regions very soon. These teams will support our Church at Diocesan/Regional Level. Event Management Team There was a growing need seen for a team to organize events of huge size. With this in mind an Event Management Team was created at the diocesan level. For the initial phase we selected members from all the units in Chennai region, based on their interest and the activities were being organized through social media. The team with the support of Psalmos (Diocesan Band) has been quite successful in helping out for a variety of events in our church such as • Kids Camp which was held at the Broadway Church for Sunday School kids • ‘Sangeethaarchana’ which was conducted by the Broadway Cathedral choir • MECF Youth conference which was held at the Koyambedu Church Psalmos “Psalmos” is the Diocesan Band of MGOCSM & OCYM – Madras. We selected more new members through an audition this year. This team led all the music & sing song sessions during the Sunday School Kids Camp and MECF Annual Youth Conference. They also led the Gregorian Worship during the Lenten Retreat in Chennai.

First of all I wish to thank God Almighty for His abundant blessings and guiding us throughout the year. On behalf of the OCYM and MGOCSM members of Madras Diocese, I wish to convey my respectful thanks to our President H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros, Metropolitan for His Grace’s strong support and guidance. I am also grateful to our Former vice President Rev. Fr. Thomas Issac (Sam Achen), Vice President Rev. Fr. Pradeep Ponnachen and Priests of our Diocese for their overall leadership and strong support in the movement activities. I express my gratitude to the Bishop Presidents of MGOCSM & OCYM – H.G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos Metropolitan, H.G. Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos Metropolitan, Bishop Vice–President of MGOCSM H.G. Zachariah Mar Theophilos Metropolitan, General Secretaries of MGOCSM and OCYM – Rev. Fr. Dr. Varghese Varghese, Rev. Fr. Jessen P. Yesudasan for all your support and Prayers. I extend my complete gratitude and love to all our senior friends (Alumni) and mentors especially Mrs.Susan Jacob, Mr. Vinod Simon and Mr. Mohan Daniel for their valuable suggestions and guidance. I also express my heartfelt thanks to Diocesan, Regional, Zonal & Unit Office Bearers and members of the Movements in all our regions under Madras Diocese for their co-operation, dedication and hard work they have put in throughout the year in organizing the events of the movement. I thank all the volunteers who work with our youth, the Youth Advisory Group, every parent, and our congregation for supporting our youths and our events.
